Culture Night

So for Family Home Evening on Monday we decided to have a Culture Night. We picked a country and found out a little more about it and also made a meal specific to that country. We decided to pick Australia. I was in charge of the country information and Layne was in charge of making dinner. Since the aussies love to use the "barbie" we had a nice steak dinner. He made a bread they call Damper (picture below) and also a dessert called Pavlova....very sugary :) I just did a table cloth with paper and wrote the facts of Australia on the table to read over at dinner.

It was fun to learn about some place new. We may just make this a monthly tradition. Culture Night....I highly recommend it!!
Some Facts about Australia:
- Aus. is approximately the size of the U.S excluding Alaska and Hawaii
-Aborigines were the 1st to settle Aus until 1770 when Cpt. James Cook explored the east coast and claimed it for Britian
-The national colors of Aus. are Green and Gold because they represent the floral emblem the Golden Wattle.
-Australia is home to the platypus, kookabura, and the koala to name a few
-The Great Barrier Reef located in Aus. is the largest in the world
-Some Famous aussies: Nicole Kidman, Heath Ledger, Keith Urban, Russel Crow, Mel Gibson, and Hugh Jackman

Pictures

Since it has been raining the last few days, Julia and I have had some pretty bad cabin fever. So we decided on Friday to get out of the house and make a trip to SLC for some adventure. We went to the Discovery Kids Museum at the Gateway mall. Julia had a great time exploring on her own and discovering new things. It was fun to sit back and watch her explore and interact with the other kids. She loved the ball and water exhibits the best. They had so many fun things to do. She sat atop a life size horse and fed it carrots, she took a ride in a jeep and played house and went grocery shopping. It was a fun day and we will certainly make another trip! We were both so tired out we got home and both took a nap!!
We also added some pictures of Julia's first time bowling, dress up ( I know the princess hat really looks like a Dunce Cap, but it was a dollar!!) and just a few cheesy pictures thrown in the mix.

Simple Pleasures!!

Julia was a little wired on Saturday. She has learned to climb up on the furniture now and thinks its fun to jump around on it. Oh, the joy of being a kid. She gets the most fun out of something so simple.

Olympics here we come!!

Julia is offically in traing for the 100 meter dash!! We are starting out short at 31 yards (the distance from our bedroom and down the hall) and will eventually build up to 100 yards. We clocked her at 7.5 seconds. Running is certainly in her future whether it be for sport or from getting out of trouble. We have our hands full!!
