Brave

Well, Julia has been doing so awesome at her summer reading. We sit down everyday and read one of her school books without a lot of fuss, which makes me really happy. She struggles with wanting to read everything perfect even when its a new book with new words. But I tell her its ok to make mistakes and to keep practicing because that is how you get better at it :) She has read for a whole month and I'm surprised at both of us for keeping it up each day!

So this week for her prize I told her we were going to see the movie Brave. She was really excited and couldn't wait to go. I think she likes going to the movies just so she can get some popcorn. It was a cute little movie. She did get scared a couple of times but did a great job at sitting and watching the whole movie. I had a fun time to. I'm really proud of Julia for working so hard at her reading. She is going to do so great in kindergarten this year!
Way to go Julia!

Olive his boy!

I have been trying to find new things for Christian to eat because he gets tired of the same things for more than 2-3 days in a row. So one day we went out to eat with my sisters and mom and Christian didn't have too much that he wanted to eat. So my sister, Amy, had some big black olives in her salad and cut them up for Christian and surprisingly he liked them, well not just liked, he LOVED them. He ate all her olives that day. I just find it weird and totally random that he would like olives? So, when I happen to remember, I will grab some cans of olives so he can eat them with lunch or dinner. He loves to put them on all of his fingers and eat them off. Too funny!

Splash Pad Fun!

Amy and the kids :)

Its been so hot out for the last couple of days. I told Julia if we could get her reading done and a few other things we could go to the splash pad after Christian's nap. The kids love to play in the water. Christian can't wait long enough for me to even drop my bag and towels before he is off and running to the water. He dives right in and isn't afraid to get wet. Julia also has a fun time and is really good at playing with Christian. We love this little spot because it's free and the kids have so much fun. Only problem is everyone else has the same idea so it gets pretty crowded.

Love his face.....so happy

Loves the water

The hat makes all the difference. It keeps the water
from spraying all over his face.

Christian was getting pretty brave going
into the middle where the water is bigger!

Preserve you Memories......

I haven't done one of these in a long time so I thought I would post one today.

Do you have a favorite story that I wanted to read over and over again?

I don't really remember what stories my parents ever read to me but I'm sure I had my favorites just like my kids have their favorite books. But when I was in 2nd grade I LOVED a certain little red book called, The Box Car Children. I probably read that book 20 times between 2-3rd grade. I knew exactly where it was on the shelf when I found myself wanting to read it again. I loved the story of a little orphaned family and how they went out into the woods and lived in an old boxcar because they didn't have anywhere else to go. I actually just bought the book on amazon and hope to read it to Julia when she is a little older. I hope she likes it as much as I did.

I also loved the Ramona Quimby series by Beverly Clearly. I probably read those all in 4th grade and would read those over and over too. I remember Ramona was a funny little girl who had the worst luck. She was clumsy, forgetful and silly. I hope to get a collection of these as well so Julia and I can read them together. Books are a great escape. They open up your imagination and can take you anywhere!

My Super Heroes!

I had to share with all of you my 2 Favorite Super Heroes!
Both are so cute, handsome, brave and strong!

House Update

Well, we have had to go out to the house a few times to check on things like stucco color mostly, but other than that we are really pleased with how things are coming along. We are getting really close to being done. This week they finished the carpet, poured the steps and driveway, and put in the toliets. Layne went out to meet with the blind guy yesterday and said that the appliances had been delievered and the vents along the floors were put in as well. Not much more to do and we should be moving in within a few weeks :)

I think the colors turned out great

Sheet Flying

It was a nice cool sunny day until it started blowing. It was one of those days we call "sheet flying" weather. Whenever the wind blows it seems like it blows extremely hard at my parents house. I think its just the location/position of their house that makes it seem like the wind blows like a tornado.
Kristy showing us how its done!
Well, I had the kids with me and told Julia we should go 'sheet flying' and grandpa said I don't know about that she might blow away. So Julia was a little tentative after that but my sister and I showed her how to do it. Once she got in the sheet the right way it was fun. Unfortunately, I was the one taking pictures so you won't see a picture of me but my sister and Julia had a fun time. I do have pictures when we first did it years ago so I will have to get a copy from my sister and post that to show you.

Not to sure about this. There was a
big gust right when I took this picture
and it nearly blew her over.

A little better....but not quite.

Yes! I did it!

Christian 18 months

Such a big boy already! We go to the doctor next week so we can get his well-baby check up to see how much he has grown, so I will have to post his stats a little later. Here are the stats for Christian:
weight: 24 lbs (gained 2 lbs in 3 months)
lenght:  31 in   (grew 1.5 in in 3 months)
head circ: 49 1/2 in (still a big head)

Well, even at 18 months he still have those chubby cheeks and big blue eyes. Now that he is getting older the new comment everyone gives him is that he looks just like daddy :) Layne has a  little mini-me, just with blond hair. He even has facial expressions that remind me of Layne. Like father, like son, I guess! They both are so darn cute!!
Ready to go!
Christian is doing so well and growing up so fast. We started him in nursery at church yesterday and loved it. They actually have 2 nurseries in our new ward, an older and younger one. Well, we made the mistake of taking him to the older one and they already had the toys out. We had to pick him up and get him to his own class and boy he was not happy. He screamed all the way down the hall because he was so mad he couldn't play with the toys. We dropped him off in his class and he didn't even look back. Walked right in and was ready to go. They didn't even have to come get us. So proud of him for being such a big, confident little man!

Christian is starting to talk a little more. Each new day I think he tries to pick up a new word. He can say car, ball, boon (balloon), bye-bye, go, more, ma (mama) and his new word is baby. He is still really good at signing and can sign at least 20 words. He understands things better too. When reading books he can point to things if you ask them where they are. He is getting better at cleaning up toys and putting things in the garbage. After we ask him to do something he gets so happy and will clap for himself.
Playing with his big truck. He loves to push it around.
His eating is getting better. He likes random things to eat like black olives and black beans. His new favorite thing is hot dogs or kielbasa sausage and any kind of chips (bbq, pringles etc.)  He still loves oatmeal, yogurt and applesauce but he doesn't want help when eating those things. I try to feed it to him and he shakes his head back and forth and reaches out for the spoon. I am getting better at letting him do it by himself. He is getting pretty good with a fork but his spoon skills need a little work. He has also learned to drink from a straw. Such a good thing because now if I forget a sippy cup he can at least drink from the straw if presented with one. He loves to drink from my water bottle and is getting better at drinking from a big cup too. I am still trying to wean him from the bottle which is really hard. He only gets one for nap time and in the morning when he wakes up. He refuses to drink from a sippy cup in bed. He knows the difference and if I switch the milk to the bottle then he'll drink it.
Trying to eat or paint with his yogurt?
He is always so funny at the dinner table.
Always trying to make us laugh!

Such a funny boy!

He loves his night time routine. He knows exactly what is coming next. We say prayers, say goodnight to everyone, brush teeth, and then I go in and hold him and he will sign please. That's my cue to sing him a few songs and rock him a little before bed. He puts his head down on my shoulder and I will sing to him. He loves 'You are my Sunshine'.
Ahhhh, asleep at last
Christian is definetly a mover and a shaker. He is so fast and doesn't just walk anywhere anymore, he runs. If you don't watch him closely or if he gets a big head start you will have to chase after him and he doesn't stop either. Sunday's are hard because he can barely sit still long enough to look at a book or be quiet long enough during the sacrament. Layne and I trade off letting him 'run' the halls during sacrament meeting. He also loves to be outside. Loves to play in the water and in the yard at Gma/Gpa Mott's house. This summer is going to be exhausting trying to chase him around in the hot sun!

Crawling through the tunnel

He also has an obsession with shoes. He loves to try everyone elses on and try to walk around in them. He does pretty good with Julia's boots and her crocs. With daddy's shoes he just trips and falls down. If his closet door is open he will pull out all of his shoes and try and bring them to you so you can put them on. He grabs his shoes and then turns around to sit on my lap and waits until I put on his shoes. He smiles really big when you even mention the word shoes. The only time he doesn't have them on is when he is in bed.

Obsessed!

He loves to play with everyone, especially Julia. She has been a good sport about sharing a room with him. We tell them to go play and they will be in their room for a good amount of time. You can always hear them laughing together. He loves to run up to daddy and climb on his feet and legs while he sits in his chair. He loves to bring me books so we can sit and read them together. He is so friendly to everyone. He loves to flirt and give everyone a big 'pirate' smile! Thanks Christian for being a funny, handsome little boy. We love you so much!
Such a smiley, funny, silly, boy!

Cool Shades Dude!

 We are ready for summer!
(christian might need to get some new shades that are a little more in season)
