Our Little Picasso........

Christian has found something he LOVES to do!! Draw and Doodle! He will color in coloring books but he just loves to create his own things on a blank canvas. He grabs computer paper and just goes to town. He loves to have you guess what he has drawn. Everyday and all day long I find paper with his drawings all over the house. And his bedroom door is covered in his art work!

After hearing Julia complain for the 100th time that Christian keeps using her colored pencils etc. I told Christian we would go down to the store and get him his own supplies. So we did. He picked out a brand new box of crayons and a box to put them in. Some new colored pencils and a notebook of his own to doodle in. We also got some glue and glitter to try out because he wanted to make some glitter art too.

Here he is with his own supplies and making his masterpieces.

Love this one the most. I told him to draw the robot on his shirt. He did a great job. I kept this one for safe keeping! He is our little Picasso!

A "Super" Hero.........

My kids have been watching Big Hero 6 a lot lately. They talk about Baymax and how they want to be superheros and what kind they want to be.  I found some thoughts about "hero's" and wanted to share them with you.

When you think of the word “hero”, who comes to mind? A firefighter? A soldier? A comic-book crimefighter? Well, these do all fit into the category of hero, but many others do as well. For instance, an animal that rescues its family from a fire is most definitely a hero! So is a volunteer who quietly feeds the homeless at a soup kitchen, or a dad who endures long hours at a hard and frustrating job in order to provide for his family.
But here’s the best part about heroes……you can be a hero too, when you stand up for what is right, do what you know you should, and be the best person you can be! To help inspire you to bring out the hero you have inside you, here are some great quotes that highlight just what heroism is and what a wonderful impact it can have!
“Not the glittering weapon fights the fight, but rather the hero’s heart.” – Unknown
“A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” – Christopher Reeve
“The hero is one who kindles a great light in the world, who sets up blazing torches in the dark streets of life for men to see by.” – Felix Adler
“Gold is tried by fire, brave men by adversity.” – Seneca
“True heroism is remarkably sober, very undramatic. It is not the urge to surpass all others at whatever cost, but the urge to serve others at whatever cost.”  – Arthur Ashe
“Those who say that we’re in a time when there are no heroes, they just don’t know where to look.” – Ronald Reagan
“It doesn’t take a hero to order men into battle. It takes a hero to be one of those men who goes into battle.” – Norman Schwarzkopf
“Any man can be a father, but it takes a special person to be a dad.” – Unknown
“The bravest sight in the world is to see a great man struggling against adversity.” – Seneca
“Promise me you’ll always remember: You’re braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.” – Christopher Robin to Winnie the Pooh

Weekend Visit.....

We headed up to Preston for the weekend to see everyone. It was the first time going up since Phil and Sherry had been back from their mission(well after the holidays anyway.) We hung out and just relaxed as usual.

On Saturday, Ella, my niece had a dance extravaganza is what I would call it. Dance companies from all around the area got together to do a few dances to showcase their group. It reminded me of going to my cousins dance recitals when I was Julia's age. It was fun to see them in their costumes and do their tap and ballet routines. Julia was excited to go. Ella is always teaching her dances when she comes up to visit.

Ella is a wonderful dancer. She is so happy when she dances. It is fun to watch her dance and she really does have a great talent for dance. She did a wonderful job and I was glad I was able to see her and her group dance this weekend.

Braces........

I decided last year during open enrollment with my insurance that I was going to get some extra dental insurance that covered orthodontic care. I certainly knew my kids were going to need braces because they both have been cursed with my tiny, crowded mouth. And because I was going to get braces too. Yes, you heard that right, I am getting braces again. I had to wait a whole year before my insurance would let me put them on but in that time I went to a few orthodontists to see which was the right fit and picked Dr. Swenson, who just happens to be my sister in laws, brother in law. Kinda crazy but anyway. So I'm getting my teeth straightened again. Yes, it was painful. The first day was fine. The next 2 days was torture. It felt like my whole mouth was just coming out of being numb and it just ached and ached and I couldn't chew anything. So I ate mash potatoes, cup of noodles, pudding, basically anything soft. After the first 2 days I was asking myself what have I done but I know it will be worth it in the end. I don't like my smile and I really wanted to do something for myself! So here goes nothing. I can suffer through this for a 14 months, no big deal! I will have to show you a before and after picture when its all said and done :)

Valentine's Day.........

I always try to come up with something new for the kids on Valentine's day. I don't like to get a bunch of sweets so I found this cute idea for heart shaped animals online. So I started early and cut out a lot of hearts to make a jungle of animals for the kids to wake up to! Lions, Tigers and Panda Bears, oh my!

I did make a sweet treat and they each got a beanie boo for the animal themed Valentine's day! It's always fun to show each other how much we are loved on LOVE DAY! XOXX
